I bought my first eReader in 2008. I had no background in publishing or technology, but I was so blown away by the potential that I quit my job, got a bank loan and started my own company.
Vearsa has come a long way since then, and we've worked hard to build the the best digital platform in the book business. We’ve said from the start that we wanted to be at the forefront of digital publishing, and we're proud of where we are today. Here's a snapshot of an exciting and productive year, as well as a glimpse of what's to come in 2016 and beyond.
In April 2015, we relaunched ePubDirect as Vearsa, a reflection of our evolution from ebook distributor to cutting-edge technology company working to solve publishers’ most pressing issues. With a new name came a more comprehensive suite of services, from sales report consolidation and analytics to cutting-edge market intelligence.
This year we've increased the reach of our distribution customers even further; we now supply over 1,000 retailer channels and another 65,000 through libraries and partners. Additionally, our team has worked tirelessly to revamp our publisher portal, improving our customers' experience with more user-friendly features and design.
We welcomed a number of amazing publishers to the Vearsa family, including Pottermore, ABRAMS, Andrews McMeel, Workman, Penguin Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins, David C. Cook, Rosetta Books, and many more. We worked closely with our customers to help them achieve their strategic goals by providing expert advice and unparalleled data services. During a year of somewhat discouraging headlines about the ebook business, we're proud to say that Vearsa customers grew their sales an average of 8% in 2015.
We rounded out the year by claiming the #2 spot in the Deloitte “Fast 50” index as the second fast growing technology company in Ireland.
In case you missed it, here are a few highlights from a productive 2015:
--Senior data analyst Anne Gaynor's counter-narrative to the "ebook decline" of 2015, with tips on price optimization and overall strategy in specific emerging markets
--A Futurebook webinar on the keys to ebook growth, featuring Vearsa account manager Emilia Pisani
--A data-driven look at the global ebook market, including shifting market share of traditional vs. indie publishers and the relationship between price and sales rank
--Promoting global literacy with our friends at Library for All.
--You can quote me on this one: the reasons why digital disruption in publishing hasn't even started.
Today's means of delivering digital content seem almost limitless, making it a more exciting time to work in publishing than ever. We look forward to another year of great books, big ideas, and continued growth and success. Stay tuned for a number of new products and features from Vearsa in 2016, as we work to provide our customers with all the tools they need to succeed.
Happy New Year!
